Situated 15 km. west of Doha, Al Wajba fort was built in the late 18th or early 19th century and is one of the oldest forts tourists will discover in Qatar. Its historical importance derives from being the site of a famous battle at which the Qatari forces defeated the Ottomans in 1893, as well as being the residence of the sheikhs during various periods of its history.
Most famously, it was once used as the residence of His Highness Hamad Abdullah Al Thani during various periods. For visitors, one of its most prominent features are its four looming watchtowers, which stand out impressively in stark contrast to everything else in the predominantly flat area.
Visiting times: we would recommend tourists visit Barzan Towers between 2pm and 7pm
