Qatar’s Cruise Industry on Cusp of Exponential Growth
The Arabian Gulf’s splendid winter weather makes the GCC among the world’s top three winter cruise destinations. Over the past three cruise seasons, Qatar has achieved remarkable growth in the number of cruise ships coming to its shores. During the 2015/16 season, the number of cruise ships docking in Qatar’s ports was double the number of the previous year.
During the upcoming cruise season, which continues until April 2017, 32 cruise ships are confirmed to call at Qatar’s ports with an expected 50,000 passengers on board, marking a three-fold increase in the number of ships and a 1000% increase in the number of passengers.
This growth is made possible thanks to the New Doha Port - the development of which is undertaken by Mwani Qatar - Qatar Ports Management Company - and the support of the Ministry of Interior Immigration Office in facilitating visas for cruise passengers.
